Pain Is A Gift
Before you frantically close your web browser thinking I’m full of sh*t, hear me out! Dealing with pelvic pain can be a daunting and oftentimes a very frustrating journey. I hear ya.
We’re sometimes so fixated on pain being in the tissues that we forget about the main organ that controls our bodily senses, the brain. When you’re in pain, survival mode kicks in and the primal brain will often trick you from feeling and, instead, suppress emotions that need to be acknowledged in order for you to heal. Your mindset predisposes you to a pattern of protection, guarding and hypervigilance when you’re in pain unless you flip the script...
If you’ve got dangly bits, don’t run away because this information applies to you too! In order to heal your pelvic pain, Lorraine says you need to “drop the resistance to the struggle.”
Suffering and loss don’t have to be a drag. In fact, Lorraine says that “pelvic pain IS the motivating factor!” It’s the wake up call your life needs to initiate change. A change that your body’s been whispering to you for years before it started screaming out you.
So how do you stop the vicious cycle and free yourself from pain?
Lorraine’s top tips include:
Accepting pain as a teacher
Be in your mind and teach the brain that it’s safe to feel sensations in your body
Body scan with awareness and be present without changing a thing. This teaches the brain that sensations in the body are safe and decreases the need for the survival/protective stress response.
Pain isn’t scary. Sometimes it’s easier to let go than to keep holding on. You have a choice to let pain liberate you or lock you up. You choose...
