ACUPUNCTURE FOR ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

Need help getting your penis to stand at attention? The global prevalence of erectile dysfunction varies widely. The latest stats reported that 14-28% of men < 40 experience erectile dysfunction.(1) For men in their 80’s, it can be as high as 86%.(2) You can see that the numbers are all over the place, so take these stats with a grain of salt.

There are many variables when it comes to researching hard-ons, for one, there are varying degrees of erectile dysfunction and not all researchers define or ask the same questions when it comes to assessing erectile dysfunction.

The second problem is that men aren’t really talking about the problems in their pants. A lot of you guys out there think that erectile dysfunction is just a “normal” part of aging, so why even bother?(3)

Lastly, your health and lifestyle choices significantly impact your boners. The risk of erectile dysfunction skyrockets with health issues like diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, smoking, and alcohol consumption. Oh, and let’s not forget about the psychosocial aspects correlated with erectile dysfunction like depression, anxiety, and relationship dynamics. Depression and erectile dysfunction feed off of each other. Being depressed zaps your mojo and not having an erection when you want it puts a damper on your mood.(4)

So let’s turn that frown upside down because there are lots you can do to improve your sexual health and function like diet, exercise, flexing your sex (ahem, pelvic floor exercises), sex toys, medications, and acupuncture. Yup, acupuncture, who knew?! On today’s show, I chat with licensed acupuncturist, Danielle Brunner, who tells us what acupuncture is and what it’s not, how it can help with your erections, and what you should expect during treatment (wipe the sweat off your faces guys, no needles go near your prized parts, phew!) Hope you enjoy the show!
